In Transit
I’ve decided to take a short break from this blog in order to concentrate more fully on several new projects – one with Garth Nix, one about anxiety and lightning, another about music and deafness, and another set in Antarctica, so there’s plenty to get on with. It’s not my plan to leave the Twinmaker universe entirely. The TV series is still in development, my grand plan for a non-fiction book about matter transmitters is on PAUSE not STOP, and of course there are mountains of Twinmaker-related stories out there, with more still to come. The project lives on, even if my energies are temporarily directed elsewhere.
In the meantime, here are some of my favourite posts, in case you missed them.
- “I Totally Stole D-mat But It Wasn’t From Star Trek, Honest” – in which I reveal the origins of my personal fascination with matter transmitters. More on that subject here, here and here.
- “To Paraphrase Is Human” – in which I discuss the many ways that quotes are mangled in Twinmaker. More here.
- “The Power of Names” – in which I float the theory that it was the lack of a good name that thrust the matter transmitter into obscurity, as compared to the catchier “time machine”. More here.
- “The ‘Half Monk And Half Delinquent’ Francis Poulenc” – on the wonderful music alluded to in Twinmaker. More here.
- “Why Twins? No Really, Why?” – in which my obsession with twins is explored. More here.
- “The Murdering Twinmaker” – in honour of Edward Page Mitchell, who first the idea in motion, way back in 1877. More here and here.
- “On The Fly” – a four-part essay in which I attempt to capture why this franchise is a masterpiece of twentieth century storytelling.
- “Lust, Entrapment & ‘In Your Face'” – in which I elucidate the agony of a story you really, really don’t want to write.
